About ACCESS Linnaeus Centre
ACCESS - Autonomic Complex Communication nEtworks, Signals and Systems - has enabled KTH to bring together 160 researchers from Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, and Mathematics in order to carry out long-term interdisciplinary research and joint PhD education on complex networked communication systems.
It is a networked world. People communicate independent of distance and time; systems communicate with systems as connectivity becomes a natural feature of any electronic device. Networked systems are vital infrastructures in our society and the basis of more and more services that we take for granted; from connectivity of personal devices in the home and car to global communication and positioning via satellite systems.
At the core of these systems are some fundamental technical issues: they must be designed to carry out the intended functions; the systems must perform efficiently and predictably; they must be manageable, controllable, and upgradeable and they must be reliable to the point of being infallible. Together with industrial partners, ACCESS researchers at KTH aim at developing fundamental understanding and engineering principles for designing self-managed and scalable communication networks in which applications may share real-time information and cooperate in an efficient, affordable, and reliable manner.
Fundamental understanding of worldwide ICT
37 faculty members, 20 postdocs and 100 PhD students are engaged with research and education at the Centre. ACCESS annual turnover is SEK 10 million making it one of northern Europe’s largest research centres for future networked systems.
Our researchers, in collaboration with industry partners, study the fundamental ramifications and engineering principles of the expanding reliance on information and communications technology worldwide for designing self-managed and scalable communication networks in which applications may share real-time information and cooperate in an efficient, affordable, and reliable manner.
Expanding knowledge
ACCESS conducts PhD courses in a graduate school that is developing a curriculum adapted to the relevant research program. A mobility program supports visiting researchers and hosts a number of post-doctoral scholars. The ACCESS Distinguished Lecture Series has during 2006-2017 regularly presented 100 internationally renowned speakers while visiting our Centre.

Researchers within the centre come toghether from eight departments at three KTH Schools:
- School of Electrical Engineering (Dep of Automatic Control, Communication Networks, Communication Theory, Signal Processing)
- School of Engineering Sciences (Dep of putational Biology and Theoretical Computer Science)
- School of Engineering Sciences (Dep of Optimisation and Systems Theory)
ACCESS is hosted by the KTH School of Electrical Engineering. Our main activities are located on the KTH Campus, Osquldas väg 10, floor 3.
